The Centenary Hospital for Women and Children has been expanded to serve the growing health needs of the ACT and surrounding region.

As part of the expansion, facilities have been purpose-built to meet the needs of the women, newborns, children, and young people that use them and to enhance care outcomes. Amenities for patients and their families and carers have also been improved to make the hospital experience more comfortable.

New facilities and related services include:

Additional 15-bed Postnatal Ward

Refreshed from the old antenatal ward to increase bed capacity over time to meet future service demand.

Expanded Special Care Nursery

Four new cots bringing the nursery total to 18, two new parent rooming-in rooms, taking the total to four, and upgraded parent amenities.

New integrated Adolescent Unit

Includes six dedicated mental health beds (a first for the ACT), six medical and surgical beds and two enhanced care beds.

Purpose-built space for the new Adolescent Mental Health Day Program

Created specifically for the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services’ Day Program. Accessed off Gilmore Crescent.

New 3-bed Early Pregnancy Service

A therapeutic, healing space for women and pregnant people with complications relating to early pregnancy.

New 15-bed Antenatal and Gynaecology Unit

Located beside the Early Pregnancy Service Unit, this new ward allows strong integration between the two services.

New Gynaecology Day Unit

A dedicated procedure suite for adolescents and women who require gynaecological treatment.

8-bed Maternity Assessment Unit

For women and pregnant people in the second half of their pregnancy or in the first two weeks after giving birth who need pregnancy-related assessment.

New clinical administration building

To support expanded services in Centenary Hospital.

Refurbished 12-bed Paediatric High-Care Ward

For children aged between seven days and 17 year who require high levels of care.
