CIT Woden Campus place naming invitation
What would you name the three new public spaces around the future CIT Woden Campus?
The ACT Government is building a contemporary and sustainable CIT campus in the heart of Woden.
The project will help transform Woden into a modern Town Centre for people to live, work and learn.
CIT Woden Campus will support up to 6,500 students each year. The campus will prepare Canberrans with the skills and training required for tomorrow’s careers.
Courses will focus on IT, cyber security, business and hospitality as required to meet the growing demands of industry and the ACT community.
Plans for the building include:
- courses to suit jobs for the future
- smart classrooms fitted with cloud technology
- simulated learning environments and hands-on training spaces
- commercial kitchens
- green spaces for students and the community to enjoy
Youth Foyer
A youth foyer will also be delivered within the campus precinct to support vulnerable young people. The foyer will provide accommodation, support services and opportunities to pursue education and training all in the one location.
New public transport interchange
A new public transport interchange will be built adjacent to CIT Woden Campus, to be used by buses now and will be ready for light rail in the future. It will improve bus services to and from the Town Centre and make travelling safer and more comfortable for passengers.
The new interchange will provide:
- paths with clear lines of sight
- clear signage so people can find their way
- better lighting
- better shelter and weather protection
- lock up facilities for bikes and scooters
- easy links to nearby cycle paths.
A temporary bus interchange is now open and will be in use until the new interchange is complete. It’s located at the eastern end of the Matilda St Carpark in Woden.
Public and green spaces
The precinct will include a number of public green spaces including the North Plaza, West Plaza and East-West Boulevard which will link the campus and the public transport interchange to the Woden Town Centre.

Social Objectives

A key objective of the project is to improve employment and social outcomes in the construction industry.
The targets seek to:
- increase participation of women in construction, across all sectors of the industry
- encouraging economic participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the project. With additional focus relating to the Yurauna package of works;
- providing meaningful employment opportunities for those in our community living with disability; and
- supporting workers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
Key targets:
- 15 new school-based apprenticeships for girls.
- 15 new apprentices for women.
- A commitment for people working on the project to be made up of 10 percent apprentices/traineeships.
- A 15 percent stretch target for participation of women in the design and construction of the project.
- A 10 percent Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander procurement policy.
