The ACT Government is building a modern public transport system that is safe, connected, and efficient to serve the needs of Canberrans now and into the future. A modern transport system will contribute to Canberra's status as one of the most liveable in the world.

Canberra's growing transport system will give people greater choice over how and when they travel. The future public transport network will allow people to easily move between transport options, regardless of where they live and work, their disability or background.

It will continue to ensure Canberra remains one of the most liveable cities in the world. Supporting the people moving between their homes, jobs and services across the city.

Since the ACT Government's commitment to move to 100 per cent renewable electricity, transport is now Canberra's single largest source of emissions. Moving towards a zero emissions public transport fleet is a practical way to support Canberrans to take everyday action on climate change.

Some of the major transport projects the ACT Government is working on include:

  • building light rail to Woden
  • building a new light rail ready public transport interchange in Woden
  • raising London Circuit
  • purchasing 90 electric buses to replace fuelled buses in the Transport Canberra fleet
  • expanding the shared e-scooter network to more areas of Canberra
  • upgrading major roads across Canberra
  • improving road and footpath safety around schools

These projects will support thousands of jobs across the construction and transport industries in the coming years.
