Key stats

Funding:

$7.178 million

Completed:

2023

A new Road Policing Centre for ACT Policing in Hume was completed in early 2023.

This site replaced the Traffic Operations Centre in Belconnen. The 6,000-square metre building provides a state-of-the-art facility to support all Road Policing operations.

The site gives Road Policing officers immediate access to major roads across Canberra. This helps maintain effective response times in emergencies.

Upgrades included necessary security for an ACT Policing location. The design and restructure of the warehouse created new facilities including:

  • offices
  • training rooms
  • investigation labs
  • workshops to fit out police vehicles
  • storage
  • vehicle parking.

The new home also provides fit-for-purpose spaces for several teams. These services now operate under one roof:

  • Major Collision Team with space to examine vehicles involved in serious and fatal collisions.
  • Road Policing Operations
  • Emergency Management and Planning
  • Radio Technicians who build and maintain police vehicle technology.

The ACT Government has signed a 15-year lease on this location.

Project benefits

Benefits of the new Road Policing Centre include:

  • Updated tools, technology and workspaces to boost road safety
  • Flexible location that can grow with the Road Policing team
  • Central, modern facility to support officers in their service to the ACT community.
