Garran Primary School is being modernised and expanded to accommodate up to 975 students.

This will meet the continued enrolment growth in the Woden region.

This project is part of an overall investment in public school infrastructure of more than $800 million. A staged approach is being developed for the construction works. This will allow learning to continue onsite as usual during the construction phase. It will also reduce the impact on parking, and ensure the site’s surrounding area is safe for students, families and members of the public.

Colin Joss & Co Pty Ltd has been selected as the Head Contractor for the Garran Primary School modernisation project. Colin Joss & Co Pty Ltd will work with Hayball Architecture to complete the final designs and manage the construction. The design phase will assess all existing infrastructure, landscaping, site constraints, reports and school community input to develop the preferred master plan options.

On 22 January 2024, the Development Application (DA) for the Garran Primary School modernisation design was submitted for approval. Pending DA approval, construction is expected to begin late April 2024.

Initial works are scheduled to start on 13 April 2024. These works will lay the foundation for construction once the Development Application process is completed.

The work will involve installing a kitchen in the library to cater for the after-school care program when the hall is unavailable during the construction period.

The school will also be constructing a new play space and carrying out landscaping works at the front of the school. This will include installing synthetic grass, handball courts, and basketball hoops, creating more external spaces for students and the community during and after construction.

The first stage of the Garran Primary School project will be completed in 2025.
