Have your say

Garran Oval was acquired at the start of the pandemic under emergency conditions with a commitment to return it to community use once no longer needed. There is no community consultation for this project, however it will be improved from its pre-pandemic state.

Garran oval will be restored for community recreation following the removal of Garran Surge Centre.

Works to deconstruct the Surge Centre commenced in early September 2023 and it’s expected to be fully removed by the end of the year.

Once gone, work will commence to reactivate the oval.

The project will include:

  • A new cricket pitch
  • New LED lighting
  • A new drought tolerant grassed playing surface complete with irrigation
  • Reinstating and sealing of the south western carpark which will also increase hospital parking

While not part of the project to remediate Garran Oval, the northern carpark behind Garran Oval, will also be upgraded and redeveloped as part of the Garran Primary School expansion and modernisation, and will provide additional parking facilities for the community and oval users on the weekend.

Once works are complete, Garran Primary School students and the wider local community will have more open space and facilities for recreational use. The renewed Garran Oval will also complement the current works to modernise and expand Garran Primary to meet the school’s current and future needs.

The oval is expected to be available again for community use by mid-2024.
